
Let’s Talk About the 120W/cm Mercury UV Lamp
We built our standard mercury UV lamps to hit a very specific mark: 120W per centimeter. If you’re running a small or mid-sized print shop, this is pretty much the sweet spot. It gives you plenty of UVC energy to snap those UV inks into place quickly, but it doesn’t require you to overhaul your entire electrical room or install some massive industrial power grid. The deal with power and light Think of that 120W/cm rating as how the power is spread across the quartz tube. These lamps peak at 254nm, which is exactly what you need to make sure the ink cures all the way through. Here’s the risk if you go lower: you get “surface tack.” It’s a nightmare. The top looks dry to the touch, but the bottom is still liquid. Not a great look for the final product. Just make sure your ballast matches the spec. If you under-drive the lamp, the light just isn’t there. Over-drive it? You’ll fry the electrodes and kill the tube way sooner than you should. Heat and Quartz We use high-purity fused quartz for the housing because it lets the UV radiation slide right through without getting blocked. But there’s a catch. 120W/cm puts out a lot of infrared heat along with the light. You’ve got to keep an eye on your cooling. If your fans are clogged with dust or your conveyor is crawling too slowly, your material is going to warp. It’s a trade-off. You get faster line speeds, but you’re putting more thermal stress on your substrates. Fitting it into your shop We didn’t want you spending hours swearing at a manual. That’s why we designed these to be simple drop-in replacements for standard UV arrays. We kept the tolerances tight so they actually fit into your existing reflectors and wire up without a fight. No need for those over-engineered, custom setups that cost a fortune. We just kept it standard, kept the quality high, and made it work.
